The Gifted Fleece

Everyone I know wears clothes. They also sleep under blankets and dry themselves with towels. Fabric is part of our everyday lives from birth until death and as a fiber artist, I am focused on the fabric. More specifically, my emphasis is on the creation of fabric using a variety of methods including knitting, felting and weaving.

My love of fabric began at my grandmother's side at the age of 5. On every visit, she would sew me a new outfit. I watched her work and helped by handing her the pins. Overtime, that expanded to my own sewing projects and then teaching myself to knit. When I was in college, I went to a weaving weekend where I was introduced to a floor loom. At the end of the weekend, my teacher said, "You are a natural. You must have been a weaver in a past life." I don't know about that, but I do know that weaving is a huge part of this life. I am most at home in my studio surrounded by my looms and yarn. Every project informs the next in a continuous evolution where a "mistake" is often a breakthrough that opens new doors for exploring fiber construction. Inspiration for a project is often based on some event happening in my life and contains a little bit of me.
